Balti Jaama Turg

I love this place's super-exotic name and that you can buy strawberries and honey from the babushkas outside with a credit card.

There are also lots of little places to eat inside. It's so spacious the whole complex has an outdoors feel, and I'm more comfortable eating here than I would be in some low-ceilinged tourist trap in Old Town. (Estonia dropped its mask mandate four days ago.)

A big efficient Selver grocery store is downstairs, and there is a terrific fish shop on the middle floor. You can buy a tin of caviar there and a dry white Georgia wine at the Selver and for 25 bucks dine like royalty.

The Rimi Super near the water tower has been getting more of my business lately because it carries more aromatic cheeses and the peerless Puhaste Dekadents imperial stout, but the Balti Jaama Turg is the only place in Tallinn that I frequent daily. The name means Baltic Station Market.
