Dome Park

There was a lot of fresh ice on the ground this morning as I strolled outside the city fortifications, and the slip factor was high, making me wonder just how easy it would be to tumble off the trail and crack my head on frozen Snell Pond (below), a moat dug out in the 1760s. The locals don't seem to give it a thought, naturally, and clamber like deer on even the most forbidding sections.

These kids were about to climb the Patkuli Steps that cling to the side of Toompea Hill, leading to the upper part of town. Tallinners appear to be unfazed by street photography. They do not flinch. Kinda refreshing.

Looks like some cowslips are poking through. Come on, spring.
